How important is your attitude?
Just received an email from the parent of two girls that I love working with. The email was so exciting, that I just had to post it immediately.
If your brain is already overloaded right now you might want to wait and read this post later, because the post involves doing some mathematics … Oh no!
Let’s imagine that you take the alphabet, just in case you need help that would be:

Now let’s assign a number to each letter, and lets just go in order:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26.
Now I want to spell some common words that we would all think about in softball as being important, and lets determine their “mathematical” value to see how important they are … ready? We’ll start with the “learning” part of the game so calculate the word “knowledge”:
K-N-O-W-L-E- D-G-E
11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+ 5 = 96%
Now lets convert that knowledge into some good old fashioned “hardwork”:
H-A-R-D-W-O- R- K
8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%
Those things are both really good but both fall short of the mark we are searching for. Let’s try the word “attitude”:
A-T-T-I-T-U- D-E
1+20+20+9+20+ 21+4+5 = 100%
Knowledge and hardwork are certainly an important part of the game, but even your math teacher would agree with all of us softball coaches that your “attitude” is the most valuable part of the game.
